Blizzard Entertainment has announced Hearthstone’s ‘Year of the Raptor’, outlining an ambitious 2025 roadmap that includes three new expansions, a significant overhaul of the Arena mode, a refreshed Core Set, and the resurgence of esports competitions.
Upcoming Expansions
The ‘Year of the Raptor’ will introduce three major expansions:
-
Into the Emerald Dream: Kicking off the year, this expansion delves into the mystical Emerald Dream, offering new cards and mechanics. A special in-game event will precede its launch, and a new ‘Year of the Raptor’ game board will be added to the rotation.
-
The Shrouded City: Details remain under wraps, but players can anticipate exploring a mysterious urban landscape filled with secrets.
-
The Heroes of Time: This expansion is expected to involve time-travel elements, potentially featuring the character Chromie.
Each expansion will be accompanied by a Mini-Set and a corresponding Battlegrounds season, enriching the game’s content throughout the year.
Arena Mode Overhaul
A major update to the Arena mode is slated for Patch 32.2, the first significant patch following the ‘Into the Emerald Dream’ expansion. While specific details are forthcoming, Blizzard aims to revitalize this classic format to attract both veteran and new players.
Core Set Refresh
The annual Core Set update will introduce a curated selection of classic and new cards, with adjustments made to balance gameplay. Notably, some overpowered cards from the previous year will be removed to maintain a fair and engaging environment.
Return of Esports
Hearthstone esports is making a comeback with two Seasonal Championships and a World Championship, boasting a total prize pool of at least $600,000. Blizzard has partnered with Netease Thunderfire to support these competitive events, aiming to inspire players worldwide.
