MU LegendMU2 overview
Recently, MU Legend (formerly MU2) has been increasingly in the focus of the gaming press, while there is no clear information about the game anywhere. That is why we decided to correct this oversight by bringing together all the information that has recently appeared on the network. For the most part, this is a selection of various interviews, which should shed light on the sequel to the iconic isometric MMORPG.
Development
Development of MU Legend began in the first half of the 2000s, but the project was canceled in 2011. The relaunch took place in 2011 with the aim of recreating the experience that players got from the iconic original MU Online. There are 60 people working on the game from the internal Webzen team and many outside developers. The degree of readiness at the beginning of 2016 was estimated at 60%. The developers expect that the MBT will not keep you waiting. The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 3. According to Webzen, this stable and proven engine is well suited for demonstrating large-scale battles on not very powerful PC configurations. MU Legend is enough dual-core processor and Windows XP.
MU Legend and the original MU Online are significantly different. The developers believe that the launch of the novelty will not cause a big blow to its predecessor, but at the same time they hope that active old-timers will want to try the new project and enjoy it. Webzen also hopes to bring back veterans who have played MU Online before.
Plot
MU Legend is a prequel to MU Online. Webzen want to tell the story of the heroes that were mentioned in the scenario of MU Online. Events unfold 1000 years before the original. Players will have to find out why Kundun was resurrected as the Lord of Darkness. The plot of MU Legend begins with the fact that Icarus could not stop the resurrection of Kundun, and to solve the problem he sent the heroes into the past. While traveling through time, they lose their memory. On the way to return the memories and complete the mission, the adventurers will have to overcome many trials. The role of these heroes is assigned to the players.
Classes
Developers have abandoned the traditional “trinity” scheme and fixed roles. On the first and second Korean CBT, 4 classes were presented (Dark Lord, Whisperer, Blader, War Mage), each of which can play both solo and in a group. A fifth (Emphasizer) and a sixth class (Black Phantom) are in development. Customization of skills and items will allow players to create unique heroes. For example, Dark Lord usually uses two-handed weapons and can act as a powerful DPS character. At the same time, he can equip magical weapons that have a healing effect, allowing him to become a tank and passive healer. MU Legend has epic dungeons of extreme difficulty for high level players. Groups of 5 people are recommended for them. The individual role and build of each character in them is extremely important.
As they level up, players will receive points that can be distributed among the parameters. The maximum number of points is 60. The current maximum level is 65. At level 65, players have 20 skills available, of which only 7 can be active at the same time.
PvP and Guilds
From PvP content, the developers announced 1 vs 1 and 3 vs 3 arenas, 10 vs 10 battlefields and guild wars with sieges of clan fortress ships. Arenas are made for fun, the 10 vs 10 battlefield is called Altar of Elements and is a map capture mode.
MU Legend features a guild system called the Knight League. The developers are still working on guild wars, trying to find the best option that will not force players to participate in mass PvP. The main tasks at the moment are to determine the number of PvP itself and the optimal number of participants in it. Much will be decided after CBT. The guild system and guild PvP is positioned as high level PvP content.
Guilds can own aircraft, travel in them, and even attack each other's ships. A ship siege consists of attacking the outer deck (including air travel) and traversing a dungeon. And here we are in for a surprise. The fact is that Webzen developed the Dungeon Builder tool (Dungeon Builder), which allows guilds to create unique ship dungeons with their own structure, traps, etc. In addition, airships will allow guilds to visit the dimension of demons - Pandemonium.
PvE and Dungeons
Rift system will appear in MU Legend. This is a random map on which, depending on the level of the player, monsters, their level and rewards are constantly changing. At the end of the Rift, the Boss is waiting for the players. The reward will depend on various factors, such as the speed of killing the boss, etc. In the Rift, you can get a special Magic Stone currency - a kind of farming boost for the next run. Rift farming seems to be one of the main PvE activities, especially for high-level players. There will also be normal dungeons with adjustable difficulty. In addition, the game has two types of PvE content - Blood Castle and Endless Tower. The first is a survival mode, and the second is an endless dungeon with increasing difficulty. The game has a large number of quests and bosses in the open world.
Heritage
From content similar to or migrated from the original MU Online, the developers noted the already mentioned Blood Castle, Jewel of Bless stones, the system of wings and mounts, as well as the characters that players will meet in the story.
Payment Model and Competition
The game is distributed in Korea on the basis of a shareware monetization scheme. Webzen itself will publish the game in the west in the same way. The release of the game in the European and North American markets is scheduled for September 2017. Despite possible competition from Lost Ark and Lineage Eternal, Webzen is confident in their creation, thanks in large part to a large fan base around the world, including China.
Platforms and Player Base
MU Legend is supported on PC and has been available since September 2017. During its peak periods, the game has boasted a daily active player base of around 50,000 players, with annual player engagement reaching up to 18 million. Since its release, it is estimated that MU Legend has accumulated a total player base of over 3 million.
Development Time and Audience
The game was developed over a span of nearly a decade, with multiple relaunches and cancellations. Initially targeted at the Asian market, MU Legend has also found a considerable audience in Europe and North America. The developers aimed to capture both nostalgic veterans of MU Online and new players looking for an engaging MMORPG experience.

MMOTOP.ORG Review
MU Legend is an ambitious project that successfully captures the essence of its predecessor, MU Online, while introducing new mechanics and features. The game's robust class system, featuring unique customization options, sets it apart from many other MMORPGs. The PvE content, with its challenging dungeons and innovative Rift system, provides players with endless hours of entertainment.
However, MU Legend is not without its flaws. The game’s graphics, while decent, could benefit from an upgrade to a more modern engine. Additionally, the PvP content, though diverse, sometimes feels unbalanced and could use further refinement.
Overall, MU Legend offers a solid MMORPG experience with a mix of nostalgia and innovation. We rate this game a 65 out of 100, acknowledging its strong points while recognizing the areas that need improvement.
