The Lord of the Rings Online: Amazon MMORPG is the tentative unofficial title of the new MMORPG from Amazon Games. The game was announced in May 2023. The place of action will be Middle-earth, well known even to not the most knowledgeable players about the trilogy of films "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". The same team that gave the world Amazon's first major and successful MMO project called New World is responsible for the development. At the same time, the developers note that the new MMO in J.R.R. Tolkien will not become the spiritual heir to New World, but the very concept and approach to MMORPGs will be partly revised in comparison with traditional MMORPGs. It is worth noting that the new game from Amazon is not a continuation of a joint project between Amazon and the Chinese corporation Tencent that was previously closed at the development stage.

Developers from Amazon promise to treat the original source with respect (in this case, Tolkien's Third Age), preserving the spirit of the famous writer's books. One of the game's features will be large-scale multiplayer battles that require complex interaction from players. The game is created on a modified Azoth Engine, previously used in New World.
