Pay-to-Win? — All the details of the monetization system in the beta version of the MMORPG Throne and Liberty – Project TL

NCSOFT published an article about the MMORPG Throne and Liberty, dedicated to one of the most discussed elements of the game among the community – the monetization system. In it, the developers told what you can spend your real money on. For visitors of the MMOTOP.ORG portal, we have prepared a free translation of this article into russian (the terrorist state).

Paid services and goods

Paid services in Throne and Liberty fall into two categories: fixed-subscription services such as Season Passes and Growth Magazine Passes, and various convenience and beauty items, which can be purchased with Lucent and Cosmetic Coins.

In addition, Lucent can be obtained through systems such as exchanges and express requests.

Season Pass / Growth Magazine Subscription

The Season Pass is a system that allows you to earn rewards by completing missions and achievements while playing. It gives you the opportunity to earn additional rewards in the paid version.

The level cap and rewards for each level have been adjusted specifically for CBT, but the mechanics of compensation and additional benefits are similar to the full version.

Season Pass: Activating the Premium Pass will unlock the following features:

  • Lucky Collector – Equipment items are dropped in an unattached state during a hunt so that they can be traded.
  • Game without connection – When disconnected, the character remains on the server for additional farming (up to 8 hours per day).

The Lucky Collector feature is required to prevent the game economy from collapsing due to monopoly or oversupply, while the Offline Play feature is being introduced due to limited PC playability.

However, we want to make sure this feature doesn’t cause any inconvenience or complicate the game during the Closed Beta.

We hope you take the opportunity to try it out for yourself and give us your feedback on any problems or ways to improve it. We will listen to your feedback in our surveys and through the community.

Merchandise for Lucent: Consumables and Materials

Products in the Lucent Shop Specialty Shop are mostly consumables that can be obtained through in-game crafting. However, to avoid having to spend time getting crafting materials, you can quickly purchase them with Lucent.

You can purchase the Food/Elixir consumables from the Lucent Shop. When used, they increase your character’s stats for a set amount of time.

Exchange

Throne and Liberty aims to be self-sustaining, allowing players to upgrade and replace items as they play. However, we also aim to use exchanges to exchange items based on demand between players, as well as to reduce the time to access content.

Exchange restrictions:

  • Required level – 15 character level.
  • Where available – On each server.
  • Currency used – The paid currency Lucent is used for trading.

Exchange commission:

  • When selling – The in-game currency Solant is used as a commission.
  • Upon purchase – The base commission is 30%, plus a “castle tax rate” set by the winning guild in Siege, which will be available after release.

In Throne and Liberty, the limited number of items to trade and the relatively high transaction fees make the items more valuable. However, items dropped by bosses can be exchanged through an intra-guild auction without any fees.

We’d like to see if these features are actively used during testing and if the commission rate has an effect on stimulating the economy, so please share your opinion.

Express Requests

The game has a request system that allows you to receive additional rewards and experience for completing tasks, but no more than 20 times a day.

In addition, there are express requests that can be taken from the request manager after the city of Vienna. (Level 24). Completing them will give high quality random rewards with a relatively high probability (rare tablets, crafting materials, etc.).

When you receive an express request, you spend a certain amount of Lucent (35 Lucent in Vienna). To update the list, the Solant in-game currency is used.

cosmetic coins

Cosmetic coins are obtained through the Collector’s Code by default, but the system is designed so that you can make up the deficit through paid purchases. Cosmetic coins can be used to purchase the Wild Transform and Amita features (pets, agathions), which are used to improve appearance.

Wild Transformation:

  • An item that transforms your character’s appearance into the shape of an animal, allowing you to move and maneuver more easily in the environment.
  • Depending on the number of items you have collected, there are also pills that give you extra movement speed or protect you from losing health when transforming.

Amita:

  • After they are summoned, eating gives the character a restoring or rooting effect.
  • Each Amitoy has individual traits that increase the chance of getting crafting materials from monsters.
  • When collecting a certain amount in the collection book, parameters such as recovery and weight value increase.

Transformations and Amita are more about convenience than character stats. You can highlight your personality with a transformation and complete it with an Amita selected based on features and preferences.
