The CEO of XLGAMES has resigned to focus solely on developing ArcheAge 2

Jae Kyung Song (known outside South Korea as Jake Song) is a prominent figure in the South Korean video game industry. He played a key role at Nexon and was involved in the development of the MMORPG Lineage. In 2003, he co-founded XLGAMES, the company behind the MMORPG ArcheAge, which was released in 2013 and is currently actively working on ArcheAge 2.

Since the establishment of XLGAMES, Jae Kyung Song served as the company’s CEO and also led game development efforts. However, on July 31, 2023, he unexpectedly stepped down from his leadership position to focus on creating ArcheAge 2. This event came as a surprise to both South Korean media and company employees.

According to Kakao Games’ financial report for the second quarter of 2023, the development of ArcheAge 2 is planned to be completed in the second half of 2024. The project may require Jae Kyung Song’s additional involvement to meet the specified deadline.
